Mandatory recycled content in beverage bottles

Europe writes history: 30% mandatory recycled content in all beverage bottles by 2030. DWMA rejoices this decision as it will boost the market for recycled plastics and it stimulates recycling. Both are necessary for the transition to a European circular economy.

The European Union had been negotiating about the Single-Use Plastic Directive which has a goal to strongly reduce the single-use of plastics. Tuesday evening they came to a final decision about the Directive and added an important component: 30% mandatory recycled content in all beverage bottles by 2030, with an intermediary target of 25% in 2025 for PET bottles. This percentage will be calculated as an average for each member state. Today the Single-Use Plastic Directive comes into force. From this day Member States have two years to implement the Directive into national legislation.

Robbert Loos (DWMA):

"Great news: this will will boost the market for recycled plastics and stimulate recycling."
