Dutch taxation of waste management has far-reaching implications
Analyses by leading Dutch research institutes PwC and Trinomics indicate that taxation measures severely limit the ability to advance circularity effectively across the European Union.
Such measures also increase costs for households without delivering tangible circular benefits. Both market-base instruments and fiscal mechanisms must be predominantly designed and implemented at the European level to ensure coherence, competitiveness and a level playing field.

Unico van Kooten (Dutch Waste Management Association, policy advisor Europe) handed over the concerns of the Dutch Waste Management Association to Jessika Roswall (European Commissioner Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy) and Alicia García-Franco (vice-president Recycling Europe), on the occasion of a high-level event on the Circular Economy Act organised by Recycling Europe on 27 November in Brussels.
