European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD)

FEAD is the European Federation representing the European waste management industry. FEAD’s members are national associations of waste management and environmental services, whose roughly 3,000 members are primarily private waste management companies.

They account for approximately 60% of the European household waste market and handle more than 75% of industrial and commercial waste in Europe. Their combined annual turnover is approximately €54 billion.

Together they employ over 295,000 people who operate around 1,800 recycling and sorting centres, 1,100 composting sites, 260 waste-to-energy plants and 1,100 controlled landfills.

FEAD’s mission is ‘to ensure that effective, practical legislation and its enforcement lead to environmental sustainability in a competitive market’. FEAD’s role in Brussels is to gather expertise and up-to-date information from its members on the many subject areas covered, to compare experiences and to advise decision makers on the overall situation in Europe.
